I will never forget the first time I saw Exeter Energy Recovery Facility. I was travelling from London to Cornwall to visit family for an extended weekend. Gazing lazily out of the window as the train clicked and clacked through fields and towns I was suddenly struck by the majestic sight of Exeter’s imposing incinerator. I spent a beautiful long weekend in Cornwall, walking barefoot in the sea whilst the salt air licked at my face. Eating fresh crab while the sun set over a turquoise horizon. Enjoying a cream tea in a quaint bakery, careful of the order of my jam and cream! Despite all of this I found my mind drifting back to the Exeter Energy Recovery Facility. Distracted like a young boy in love for the first time, I started to obsess about the fantastic site of Exeter’s tall and sleek incinerator. I was about to board the return train to London when I made a rash decision. I abandoned the train I had paid £300 for that would take me home to my wife, children and job as a paediatric brain surgeon and I journeyed to the ticket office to purchase a ticket to Marsh Barton train station. Marsh Barton: gateway to Riverside Valley Park, but more importantly, home to Exeter Energy Recovery Facility. As I alighted the train at Marsh Barton I looked up at the Exeter Energy Recovery Facility and I knew I would never regret the decision I had made, and I would never return to the life I had lived to this moment. Now I live permanently in the opposing shadow of the mighty incinerator and I finally know where I belong!!

Pretty quiet. Tidy a little whiff but better than solar farms and currently 80 plants in UK give more energy than solar.

Great idea and location. Apparently a lot of porpoises are incinerated here, hence 3 stars
