Cumberland Infirmary

This is my first experience in this particular hospital and it was a chaotic and unpleasant one. Without going into detail - two errors made by staff in their clinical duties led to additional health issues. Had proper care taken place neither would have happened. The transfer of care from assessment to admission was chaotic and disorganised with little to no communication. My original plan of care seemed to be abandoned and it was very clear that communication between departments does not take place. I waited for a procedure that did not happen and then was told I’d need to wait, therefore remain in hospital, until the following week just to get the next stage of investigation. This is an appalling waste of a bed so I did choose to discharge myself and requested outpatient follow up. There are some genuinely caring staff here but it is clear they are let down by too high a patient intake and therefore patient care suffers as a result. CE needs to address this. I left with no diagnosis or investigations, beyond bloods, and three bruises and a blown vein I did not go in with. Back to Primary care to now address the pain from this.

I had a wonderful experience with the maternity department. The staff were incredibly kind, gentle, and caring, and I always felt well looked after. They made me feel comfortable, supported, and listened to throughout my care. I'm so grateful for the compassion and professionalism they showed. Thank you for everything!

Extremely long wait time which i know is normal nowadays but when you have a ct scan of your head and neck and the consultant just looks at the head scan, goes home then they have to go to somebody in Australia to check the neck scan it seems ridiculous. Something that could been sorted in an hour took 12 hours. The nurses there are lovely though very kind and caring.

Triage nurse is absolutely clueless, come in for a CT scan by ambulance for thunderclap headache with cervical neck issues that could be a possible bleed on the brain and the window to check for new bleeds is hours. But Got left without even been seen and told the wait is for 7 hours , I had light sensitivity and pain in my eyes in the 4 million lumen of light waiting room and headaches so I went and explained the issue and I was just told by the receptionist to go sit-down and wait . Totally unprofessional place , the state of this hospital is well below standard . Also you should not take ibuprofen as it might stop a clot of there is a bleed and after I complained about not been seen and in need of pain killers the nurse offered me ibuprofen. It just goes to show that the level of knowledge and skill about basic care is absolute zero . Rushed to hospital to sit and wait with clueless staff , I could have travelled to any other hospital within a 2 hour radius and still been seen quicker and been back home . I seriously hope I never need care is Cumbria again.
