My pre-op assessment was done by Joan and Claire. They made me feel comfortable and at ease. Whilst being professional in doing what was required for the assessment, they were friendly and cheerful. The atmosphere in the department is calm. I left feeling really good. Thank you, ladies!

I’m a registered nurse with 50 years’ experience working in and alongside the NHS. Frankly, the NHS has always struggled to be person-centred in my opinion. My experience has been supporting people with disabilities, so I am very aware what the presence or absence of person-centred care looks and feels like. I have used the services of 3 private hospitals in the last decade or so and quite honestly, insofar as person-centred care goes, they’re all streets ahead of the NHS. I have visited the Chaucer hospital 4 times in recent months and I don’t hesitate to say that the Chaucer is the best hospital that I have ever personally experienced. Just recently I was a day patient for a procedure under sedation. Every single member of staff that I encountered connected with me in a meaningful way, showing genuine interest in me and courtesy for me. There were a surprising number of staff who had input into my care considering it was just a morning procedure, and without exception they were all lovely and made me feel very safe and cared for. One person remained with me the whole time from well before the procedure until it was all over. She was lovely too and showed me great compassion and reassurance throughout. Person-centred care of the standard I experience at Chaucer is not easy to achieve in care settings, especially so in the more overtly medical, clinical or surgical setting. I’ve observed this phenomenon for many years. At times I have, as a manager, struggled to achieve first-class person-centred care and I failed on more occasions than I succeeded. Well done and thank you Chaucer. All of you.

When I entered the building, I was immediately informed about the plan of my day case. Once filling out some forms to make sure the safety of my stay would be a good one, I was then escorted to my own private room with private facilities and it was the cleanest hospital room I have ever been in. I kept on being informed about the plan for the surgery so I wasn’t caught off guard by anything and I was able to make my own decisions and not feel pressured into anything. Every staff member who came into my room knocked first to make sure it was ok ( adding to the privacy aspect) and was very nice and professional from the lady who served my lunch to the doctors and nurses who came into to discuss the procedure with me. All of which I have stated also occurred after the procedure had finished increasing the great professionalism, cleanliness and all round work this hospital does. Thankyou very much. Nathan

I attended my pre-op appointment today and had a really positive experience. Everyone was friendly, welcoming and took the time to explain everything clearly, which helped put me at ease ahead of my surgery. A special thank you to Helen and Poppy, who were both absolutely lovely. They were professional, approachable and made what could have been a nerve-wracking appointment feel much more relaxed. Their kindness and reassurance were very much appreciated. Thank you to the whole team for making the process so straightforward and for providing such excellent care.

Excellent treatment with professional and friendly staff. The receptionists are always welcoming and efficient. I was made to feel comfortable, and was constantly informed of the next steps. The after care post treatment was exceptionally considerate and caring. I felt in safe hands from start to finish.
