Steven Hewlett Master Thatcher

I am delighted with the replacement ridge that Steven has just put on my grade II listed thatched cottage. It has attracted compliments from neighbours as well as passers-by. The roof is awkwardly configured, but Steven rose to the challenge. I was amazed to learn that he had first worked here when he was an apprentice. It was a delight that he was joined by his son. Steven was very professional and friendly throughout the project from our initial discussions to the final completion. To use his words. – “the owner of a thatched cottage is the guardian of the property” and Steven is just the person to help us fulfil this role. Christine Webb August 2023

I have just had Steven replace the thatch ridge on our house and found his service excellent from start to finish. He was highly recommended by a trusted friend who has used his services in the past. Steven turned up at the agreed time to inspect the roof and gave us his expert opinion of what work was necessary to maintain it’s integrity and prolong the life of our roof. He kept the repair work to a minimum and offered a quote at the time of inspection along with a date for competing the work. Scaffolding was required which he organised and liaised with us in advance to agree when it would be erected. Steven was a pleasure to have working on our property, turning up on time, being very polite and friendly, working unobtrusively and efficiently. He was happy to show us what he was doing and explain the thatching process which was fascinating as well as informative for our future thatching requirements. The work was completed to a high standard, promptly and without mess.

Steven has just finished thatching our roof and has done a first-class job. He kept us updated as the work progressed and kept the site very tidy in spite of the very windy conditions and cleared up immaculately. He kept to the price quoted and there were no hidden extras. The liaison with the scaffolders and leadwork contractor was also very smooth and there were no hold-ups along the way. I would thoroughly recommend him to anyone looking to have thatching work undertaken.

Steven carried out some work on our thatched roof and did a fantastic job. He was extremely helpful, personable and professional and him and his family team showed a wealth of thatching knowledge. If we need any more work doing we will not hesitate in giving Steven our repeat business.

Very easy to deal with. Clear pricing that didn't change. Did a fantastic job with very polite men on the job. Clean, tidy and excellent time keeping.
